For July's Science Talk Speaker, Dr. Melanie Swan will present Space Humanism: AI-Quantum Computing Convergence and the Future of Intelligence

Computational technologies (artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and spiking neural networks) are changing humanity’s relationship with knowledge, and humanist values are inspiring a new idea of identity and intelligence as we expand into space. The pursuit of individual agency and scientific discovery remains constant in the trajectory extending from Greek Humanism to Enlightenment Humanism to Information-age Space Humanism.

Melanie Swan, PhD, MBA is a Research Associate at University College London with research interests in Information Systems Biology. Beginning on Wall Street, Dr. Swan currently focuses on biological risk management, DIYgenomics crowdsourced healthy cohort studies, and mathematical physics, quantum computation, and blockchain technologies applied to the multiscalar ecosystem study of preventive medicine, disease, and aging. She has a PhD from Purdue University, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA from Georgetown University.
