Post-Partisan Forum: Will Socialism Sink the Dems?

Democratic Socialists aren't fringe anymore. Candidates aligned with the movement are winning primaries and gaining visibility across major cities and states, emerging as a real force inside the Democratic Party. That momentum raises an obvious question: what are they actually proposing, and can it win nationally?

Set aside the abstract definitions of socialism. What are the specific agendas today's Democratic Socialist candidates are running on? Are these platforms internally coherent, or a grab bag of aspirational promises with unexamined tradeoffs? What will happen when they meet the messy reality of actually governing?

But there's a deeper question at stake: as the party absorbs more explicitly left-wing positions, does it risk alienating the median voter? Recent cycles show how fast ideological overreach — on DEI frameworks, cancel culture, academic identity language — can repel swing voters who'd support reforms on economic issues. Is the same dynamic playing out now? How far left do Dems have to go before they can ride the anti-MAGA backlash, and at what point do they alienate the moderates they need to win?

This forum invites participants from across the political spectrum to examine whether the current updraft for socialists can prove to be a durable realignment for Democrats or another self-inflicted wound.
